The words to this song are taken directly from Colossians 1:15-23, which some scholars believe was an early Christian hymn. It describes Jesus as king over all things, pre-existing before all things. The thing that strikes me most about this passage is that through Jesus all things exist and hold together... He keeps our lungs breathing, our heart beating, the planets spinning, the seasons coming. He is truly high above us and deserves worship and fear.
