about

This song comes directly from Luke 24 and is written from Mary Magdalene's perspective. I tried to put myself in the shoes of the disciples, and specifically this woman, who had put so much stock and hope in Jesus, only to watch him die. What would they do? Where would they turn?

When they find out that Jesus is alive, they were filled with wonder and joy. The hope they buried on Good Friday bursts out again more fully alive than ever before. Can you imagine their excitement and joy?

We know even more of the story now - that in his resurrection, Jesus defeated death and sin's reign begins to come untrue (1 Corinthians 15:55-56). We know now that he took on the curse for us (Galations 3:13). Should we not then be all the more filled with wonder and joy that Jesus is not dead but alive?

lyrics

We buried our hope on a Friday night
Through my tears I watched him die
We left our jobs, we left our lives
What will we do now?

I went to the tomb but he was gone
Did they take him somewhere, what’s going on
Two angels sat at the foot and the head
Saying “he’s alive, he is not dead”
He’s alive, he is not dead

He’s alive!
Death will die!
The fall will fly in reverse
Bury the curse
He’s alive

So I ran as fast as my legs could go
Saying “I’ve seen the Lord, He’s alive, I know!”
One night he showed us all his scars
And faith began to fill our hearts

He’s alive!
Death will die!
The fall will fly in reverse
Bury the curse
He’s alive

Our dead hope its pulse it starts
Its beating like his beating heart
In our joy, we watch him rise
Carried up into the sky
