about

From Haggai 1:1-11, 2:6-9, 23.

After the Jewish exiles return to Jerusalem from their captivity in Babylon, they get to work on rebuilding their destroyed homes and lives. And yet, God's house - the destroyed Temple - sits untouched and decaying. Because God's people had neglected His house, too busy with their own, they were finding that nothing they did was working properly. There was an emptiness that they could not fill, because they were valuing their own comfort and happiness rather than God's presence.

I feel like I often do not make room for God in my own life. Although he should be the first priority, I let the busy-ness of my own life crowd Him out. And yet, He promises to bless me if I seek first His kingdom.

lyrics

You eat but aren’t full
You sow but don’t reap
You always stay thirsty even when you drink

All the money in your pocket
It falls right through
Cause there’s a hole in the bottom
Of all you do

You neglect my house
To busy with your own
But don’t you know I will bless
If you make me a home
So make me a home

You will eat til your full
You will richly reap
You will never be thirsty when you deeply drink

And I will fill this house
With silver and gold
And the glory of this place will be more than of old

Oooh I will wear you like the ring of a son
Oooh and you will be my chosen one
