about

From Obadiah. When Judah was finally wiped out by Babylon, the nation of Edom - Judah's neighbor to the south and the descendants of Esau - laughed, gloated, and stood aloof. In this book, God warns Edom that just as Judah had drunk the cup of God's wrath when they were sent into exile, so Edom will drink this cup and will be judged for how they reacted to Judah's shameful defeat.

But God also promises hope for Israel: God's plan to give them the promised land will not be frustrated, and a remnant will escape His wrath and worship Him on Mount Zion.

Although I don't fully understand this promise, I do know that ultimately it is fulfilled in Christ. Only through Him do we escape the cup of wrath, because He drank it for us.

lyrics

O Edom, Your pride has lied to you
O Edom, God has His eyes on you

When your brother was ashamed
The enemy crashing the gates

You gloated, You laughed, you stood aloof

But as we’ve drunk of this cup
So you will drink it up
You will reap what you sow
And God will bring you low
As you swallow

O Jacob, He has a plan for You

For the ones who, in Him take refuge

The promised land
Will be yours
And the King will be the Lord

O Jacob, He has a plan for You

And as you’ve drunk of this cup
So they will drink it up
They’ll will reap what they sow
And God will bring them low
As they swallow

The holy mountain, to the holy mountain
A holy people will come

To the holy mountain, on the holy mountain
God will build His kingdom
