about

From 2 Chronicles 3-5.

This song is a bit different from the rest in that it takes the items in the temple and looks forward to how each item and ritual are ultimately fulfilled in Christ. As Solomon built this temple, he had no idea how perfectly Christ would fulfill the function and work of the priests, the rituals, and the sacred items inside. He had no idea that one day the curtain separating the people from the Most Holy Place would be torn in two through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, and that God would invite us into a relationship with Himself through this perfect Lamb.

lyrics

I walk into the temple
I see an altar ahead
Innocent blood has been spilled
So I could be covered instead

Dip my hands into the water
Wash all the guilt away
Now I feel clean and white
And purified
And “mercy” is all I can say

And He is welcoming me in
He is beckoning me in
He is welcoming me in
Into His presence, to where He lives

Step into the Holy Place
See the bread on my right
Body broken for sin
And for my soul the bread of life

Incense rising up
Like prayers to heaven’s heights
Candle burning warm
Shining for all the world
It’s lovely light

Curtain torn in two
Most Holy Place
Glory for a few is now
Seen plainly in Christ’s face
Is now seen plainly in Christ’s face
